Not been on here for a while, but all this talk of new rules seems like a solution in search of a problem.

If you started and stopped your watch every 2 squares it would be a pretty inefficient use of your time. If you ran two watches at the same time it would simply be cheating and you can hardly police that in a bit of fun with no material reward.

Presumably I could send my wife and the dog out with a couple of watches and rack up run and walk credit while catching up on some sleep. Or drive slowly round my square like some dubious characters have done in FKT attempts. But why?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

57.5 Degrees of Pain Any other mainstream site that has Legends & such would have seen ppl cheating the bejeezus out if it on week 1.
It doesn't seem that way here.
There's no way to win without putting in the time & miles, no matter how you slice & dice it.
But.. Restricting short out & backs does increase my mileage, and works for other badges.

I've looked at the training entries logged so far this week (not quite aligned with the game start of midday, just everything from Monday to now).

There are 2796 training entries.

Of these, 206 are 0.5km or less (the figure rises to 459 for 1km or less). But 14 of these entries are swims, so I'll exclude those.

That means 192/2796 ~=6.9% of all training entries could be considered as 'gaming the system'.

There are 54 players who have logged such an entry, but 30 of these have logged just one such entry, so I would happily rule this as coincidence. At the other end of the scale, five players account for 98 of the 192 entries under question. And two thirds of these 98 entries are 0.2km or less.

So a blanket ban based on a minimum distance of say 0.5km would have a small impact on 54 players - in order to discourage this tactic in maybe 5 players.

I will continue to stew this until Monday, to let the current multimatch and 1v1 games have continuity, but will make a call then on whether to introduce a limit for run, bike and walk.

Thanks for the facts Fetch. Can you say if the 5 players are at the top of the WSW league?

Thanks for the data! I'll stand by my previous opinion with a bit of added confidence.

Some of my dog walks are only possibly 0.5 m,I see these as a legitimate activity, some days I do push them to a km if I’m hoping to get a rundle number, honestly I don’t mind if I lose them with the possibility of new rules, whatever for the greater good!

I'm not going to name anyone, as it's within the rules. I can see who they are though :-)

I'm leaning towards the idea that a minimum distance would have minimal impact on people playing quote in the spirit of the game unquote, whilst discouraging the tactic.

You've only got one entry this year that is less than half a kilometre - and that looks like a warm up for parkrun, so entirely fine in my book.

I, for one, would have plenty of activities (walks only) that are less than 500metres. But they are all pretty much in the one square. And not one that I’d be losing if I didn’t have any walks in it.
