If it’s really a concern, then a WSW variant with more restrictive rules could be created alongside the ‘open’ one. I liken this to chess variants. A WSW variant that only includes runs, for example. Interesting. It’s not the biggest concern for this game, by far, IMHO.

What would be your biggest concern?

Re: spirit of the game The description literally says "Battle for control of each square in your grid." So it isn't simply a sum of all of your regular training activities. If you go shopping but first go for a WSW short loop to score 4 squares, is that really against the spirit? And if you walk the loop out, and run it back, is that not OK, for a "battle"? I agree ruining a proper run/ride by breaking it up with short walks is something to be discouraged. Thoughts? |

My biggest concern is grid movement and inaccessibility. When half or more squares are inaccessible, then it really hampers the ability to get a lot of coverage against someone who can reach all of their squares. Being able to move the grid once just shifts the bits that are accessible, leaving lots of the ones that now can’t be reached as susceptible. Having a daily grid move would help in this situation, as it would then be possible to fortify squares on the next day. This also helps with people who train at different places, such as club runs, work runs, weekends or weekdays away. Those ones don’t really impact me, but many people have posted in here about that being an issue, and being unable to do any more for their current WSW match.

I agree with your points RunRuss. Playing devil’s advocate, is it cheating to record a run/walk activity as one activity or breaking it up into the constituent parts? Depending on how you look at it, either case is defendable. So neither would be cheating. I’ve seen people mention the spirit of the game but that would be each person’s opinion. No spirit of the game has ever been defined, as far as I know, though I didn’t play this game in the early days of it. 🙂 |

I wanted a balance of opportunity and challenge. I understand the frustration of not being able to hit all your squares. Without a grid move I reckon I can reach 183/225 squares. I also know what it's like to be out of grid for a portion of time every other week, whilst my opponent plays merry hell with the grid. I don't know if a daily move would be better or worse for the gameplay though. |

I, for one, would have plenty of activities (walks only) that are less than 500metres. But they are all pretty much in the one square. And not one that I’d be losing if I didn’t have any walks in it. I can see these, JCB. Out of interest, what are they? |

For me it's these repetitive ultrashort activities that aren't in the spirit. If I could be bothered then on my 10k walk this morning I could stop it in every square and run 10m and then continue my walk - which would get me 4 points per square. Whilst not a massive deal in all the issues of the world - I can imagine that it would annoy my opponent that week So for me it would be to not include anything say less than 100-200m but only if it didn't cause fetch too much work |
