Here's an interesting thing (to me anyway). The game will record points for ANY form of exercise you do, so long as it has a GPS trace.
I did my bike ride this morning and was up to 4 points on my home square as a result. I kept my Garmin on and did an indoor row to measure my heart rate. However, it has also registered me another point in that square. And I know it did because I got a 'Your Match Has Been Updated' message.
So, first off, sorry DocM - that's given me an unfair advantage in that square. I'll try to fix that up in a bit.
Secondly, this explains a lot from my match last week. I won comfortably due to cycling and running to the edges of my grid, but my opponent was logging 'Cross Training - General' every day and I was getting alerts that the score was being updated.

I'm with you ITG. I took my first ever break from WSW this week, just because I could feel myself getting a little bit obsessive - I had a really good, close game with Carpathius last week, that I only really sealed with a carefully planned Sunday run. But it just seemed like I was taking it a bit too seriously. Running mainly off-grid this week on some local trails that I haven't run for ages and some that I have never run has been strangely liberating. I'll be back in WSW next week, but I think I need to adjust my targets a little.

OtherRichard: the trail is calling me. I can't really risk leaving it until next weekend (and taking a break) because it will probably have snowed again by then!
McG I don't think it is an unfair advantage to workout in your own home unless the GPS was actually wrong.

No, it was spot on. My objection really is that the terms of the game say it's running/cycling/walking/swimming but I think you can make *anything* count if it has a trace.

Sorry about that TeeBee. You should never give up. My experience from 4 weeks off running indicated that running will trump biking so long as you get out 5 times a week. I had so much fun this morning exploring pockets of land I’d never been to. Took a leaf from McGoohans blog the other day where upon closer scrutiny some squares that look inaccessible actually have paths leading in to them.

If I positioned my grid properly in Bxl a good rugbying would get me 4 squares as I ran the warm up laps around the pitch.
I justified it to myself on the grounds that it *is* running, after all, but if the feeling is that other sports oughtn't to count I shall try to record it different in the future.

TBH I think other sports should count so long as they are reasonably GPSable - as rugby would be.
The potential for rule-bending opens up if someone logs four bits of exercise that were actually, say, walks but then edits them into different things for the sake of square-grabbing.

I suppose I could have taken the mickey by logging the warm up laps as running and the rest of the training session as rugby, and thus having two activities in the same squares for the price of one.
Though cross training only scores 1, I think, rather than 2, doesn't it? So actually I'd have three times the score in those squares if I logged the warm up as running. Hmmm..... I'll stick to just logging it all as rugby (if I ever get to go back to training, that is).

S'ok SC. I decided since the lockdown that I'm just logging what I do, and what I do is on my training plan. Whatever score that gives me at the end of the week, is fine by me - sometimes I win, sometime I lose (although Synge will tell you sneaked in a draw from a quick mile walk to the shops on Sunday afternoon a couple of weeks ago ). Just grateful for getting out there. I hope you're having fun exploring
