We've not given blood in NZ yet as when we arrived, 11 years ago, they banned blood from UK people due to mad cow disease. They've recently lifted that ban, so we will do soon.

Actually, I welcome this from a personal POV although it must use up an awful lot of staff time. But I suppose if it helps squeeze every last drop out of available appointment times... I got knocked back last time out because I'd been to the south of France. Pretty vanilla, I thought, but risk of West Nile virus or sommat like that. Annoying. Blotts Mate wrote:
Due on 29th. Blood service rang today with the Spanish Inquisition. WTF? New this week apparently, trialling for 6-8 weeks. All the questions on the pre donation form to prevent wasting bookings on people dropping out other day. Bonkers |

> they banned blood from UK people due to mad cow disease It is weird now to think how big a story that was all those years ago. |

The CJD (MadCow) disease question is still on the forms though isn't it? I wonder how many people were affected overall, and how long before it goes away? |

I wonder how many people were affected overall, and how long before it goes away? 178 people have died from vCJD in the UK Research in 2013 indicated one in 2,000 people in the UK is a carrier of the disease, linked to eating contaminated beef and that it may have a very long incubation period so it's likely that we'll see the ramifications of the problem for many years yet. |
