Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

When did you last give blood?

Today. Fastest ever visit, as I had the first appointment after their afternoon break, all done in forty minutes.

6:16 donation time, nicely speedy.

TUC biscuits and a mint club. Two other ladies were in agreement with me that we only donate for TUCs, a fourth lady at the table looked at us slightly bemused.

They had a leaflet about platelet donations, they’re looking for A- AB- and A+ donors so I’ve signed up to be assessed. Height and weight plus an extra blood test and veins assessment next time I donate. Shame I didn’t realise whilst I was there, they might have been able to do it today. I suspect I’m still too short/light but we’ll see.

@Fizz :-) I keep getting letters asking if I'll donate platelets - however as a shortie (around 150cm) I'll need to put on about 20kg to have enough blood volume so they go straight into recycling...

Nice! I think I'm also too short.

I thought the online weight checker had disappeared, but I’ve just found it again. At 160cm and 70kg I’ll just scrape through, I think.

I think the platelet donating is more about the size of your veins as they take the platelets out of your blood then return the blood to you so actually different to blood donating.

They say they’ll check my veins, but there’s also a height/weight barrier.

I didn't have platelet-rich enough blood. Not worth their while I was told. :-(

Well done all blood and platelet donors! :-) G

Today for me too. No TUC’s though. Have to make to do with mini cheddars like snack. Extremely jealous of Fizz :)
