Donation #41 done. First time I’ve been told shouldn’t really exercise before donating. Also got lots of questions about what I’d eaten today. All went well despite me running in the morning and not eating enough. 😁

I've never been told not to exercise. I often go for a lunchtime run before an afternoon donation appointment and apart from the "Is this something you regularly do?" question and the accompanying look of mild disbelief that a 65 year old man would be dumb enough to do anything like that, no other comment has been made.

My reason for not exercising before donation is that I'm borderline on Hb / iron abd I was told coffee and running (and alcohol!) suppress Hb count. Don't know the truth of it all. :-) G

I was tripley bad then. Also had a coffee before donating! 😁 My iron was 132 so fine. But I take over the counter iron to keep topped up as I was anaemic a few years ago and got a year ban.

I know lots of other runners that have done exercise before and not been an issue. I definitely don’t run after a donation.

I sometimes go for a pint after a donation, despite dire warnings.

I am supposed to be donating Monday but am not sure if I should. Seem to be in a permanent state of shatterdness lately. Will see how I feel over the weekend

Cheeky’s Dad
Ran this morning before donating (which is where I am now) Not sure if it affected my iron levels - the nurse didn’t appear to pay much attention to the speed the droplet sank (it did after a pause 😁)

Hoping I don’t feel too knackered after this donation as my running has felt quite energised recently
