Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

When did you last give blood?

Had my reminder letter and a text this morning to say they are looking forward to seeing me next Mondday (or words to that effect!!) for my 85th!!

I started about 40 years ago when we were given time off at work to go over the road to the Police Staion to donate and despite regular trips abroad to some very dodgey countries have been able to keep it up ever since

Since they changed to three donations a year it seems to come round really quickly

I last gave blood the end of May. My blood didnt drop this time so they had to do further test and all was ok. Roll on 3 weeks later and after feeling rather unwell for a while it turns out I am anaemic. Iron tablets it is for me for 3 months.

I went yesterday. I got a text in the morning asking to take a face covering but when there, only the staff seemed to be wearing them. Drop didn't go down but I was okay on the gadget test.

I asked about the plasma thing and there was a nurse from local hospital who came to check my veins. She said that lots of people are turning up for the plasma donations but their veins aren't good enough. Mine are too skinny so I won't be able to donate plasma or platelets.

i went to give blood yesterday and was told im not allowed to. It seems that as i lived in the UK during the Mad Cow era, NZ blood don't have the ability to screen for CJD. So i have to keep all my own blood, it does seem silly due to the amount of people living here from the motherland.

Yeah, many countries won't take british blood because of BSE / CJD. That was a real debacle wasn't it?
