Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Without plotting, and with a tight 20m tolerance (which with GPS bounce could miss you a flag even if you ran through it), you don't stand much chance of completing a course.

I've zoomed the 2 courses I completed to the max, and apart from the start which is dependent on your first GPX fix, I do an X pattern of at least 20m at each flag to ensure I pick it up.

I've loaded my GPX to Excel with a formula to show the proximity of every ping to every flag, taking the min value.

So far my furthest ping was 8m, and start points were within 3m

Still no rankings or acknowledgement.

I think I'm on a shadow ban.

I got 9 out of my 10 points on my first try. The missed one was my own fault. I put it at a library. The issue was the library is in school grounds and so you can only get to it when the school or library is open which is wasn’t at 7:30 this morning!

@chunkywizard On my to do list is Hayling 1. It has a flag in the middle of a Theatre, which won't give a GPX fix when you're indoors. I'm planning on asking the staff if I can walk the perimeter of the building and hope it picks up the flag.

😂 I asked Fetch if I can move the library flag outside the school gates. It would make the course much easier!

Oops. Sorry @Chicken 🐔 I plotted the route while I was on holiday there last week and didn't think about that.

This one's about as close as you can get (as the actress said to the Bishop) 😉

OK, so it was a billy basic error on my part.
My Training Settings had all tracking data protected.
Orienteering needs the GPX track to be visible to all for it to register.

A few little tweaks:

1) your run no longer needs to start at the start point. You can run to it, and continue from it to collect flags, without having to interrupt your run.

2) if ONLY YOU have visited a course, you can switch it back to edit mode. This *does* remove all your attempts at the course, but it will give you the opportunity to get your flags right.

3) when placing a flag, I've increased the zoom level - this will hopefully help you get your flags in the right place.

About This Thread

Maintained by fetcheveryone
I had an idea the other day whilst walking with Katie. A lot of Fetch games rely on randomly-placed markers to encourage you to vary your routes - but what if you could design your own virtual orienteering course? Drop a dozen or so virtual flags on the map, and then you've got a challenge for yourself and anyone else who is passing through the area.

I've built some pages that allow you to construct a course:

fetcheveryone.com/ori

There are some notes on that page ...
