I'm organising an orienteering event at Leeds University next Saturday and I'd like to encourage people to come along have a go. It's very beginner-friendly, and there will be lots of people around to ask questions (including me). You don't need to bring anything, except yourself, some running kit, and if you have one, a compass, although this isn't strictly necessary. You can register and start any time you like between 12.30 and 2pm is from outside the University Union (LS2 9JS), where you will find me handing out maps. It's £2 for an adult and just 50p for juniors and students (to cover the cost of printing the maps). There are 4 courses with increasing difficulty - White (0.9km) and Yellow (1.5km) - which are for Juniors and Children, Orange (2.4km) - which is for adult newcomers and older juniors and Green (3.7km) - which is a hard course for those wanting a challenge! Note that the distances are straight line distances, so you'll actually cover nearer double that distance. You don't have to let me know if you want to come along - just turn up! (although if you do want to, please do so, it'll help me make sure I've got enough maps!) Full details, including details for the other beginner events we're organising in Leeds throughout November at aire.org.uk Any questions, please post below! |

Sadly my days of travelling for miles to orienteering are long gone but I can recommend this as a fun thing to do and a change from normal training.

Alsoran and I are hoping to make it. We'll be orange beginners. We have done quite a lot of navigation across moors and hills but doing it at a run in an urban environment will be a challange...!

Alsoran and I are still on! Made it here from Devon in time to go (or attempt at least) orienteering.

Thanks very much! Had a really good time - the patient explanation was very helpful and we made a couple of mistakes but soon sorted out our errors and got back on track.... I hope to do some more - other commitments permitting. Alsoran will be returning to Devon so I'll be a lone participant in future.
