Bob, this is our go to Sunday lunch recipe for a vegan roast. wallflowerkitchen.com Bit of a pfaff for a week night but we usually make lots and have some in the fridge or freezer to reheat.

It’s not for me, not at all, but a friend of mine is now following a vegan life and she runs, cycles and hikes probably further and faster than ever. The only thing that hasn’t improved is her swimming, but she refuses to apply herself ;)

Did you know there was a thread and a group of like-minded athletes already set up?

Thanks Vrap will try that 😊
Loads of yummy looking recipes in here now have bookmarked them. Interesting to read not to add salt to lentils or beans until the end of cooking otherwise they come out tough. I may have seasoned lentil soup in the past and boiled it to death because it wasn't 'done'

Today I made swede soup. It wasn't vegan, but I'd have liked it to be...what do vegans do to get the depth of flavour that smoked bacon achieves in a recipe like this (where there's very little meat, but it makes a massive difference to the flavour).

It was done with fat, onion, bacon, swede, apple, stock & cream. All easily vegan-able ...except the bacon!!

The thing about salt in the cooking water making beans tough is a myth. There is no plausible mechanism by which it could, and it doesn't.

WL, I wonder if smoked paprika might give you that smoky flavour you're after?

That was all my brain could come up with too, Garfield. I use it a lot already instead of spicy chilli in food we make for the family (the kids are not great with proper spicy).
