Been following a plant-based diet for about 7 years now. Don't like labeling myself so wouldn't call myself vegan, although others do and I'm fine with it. Feel healthier since, get ill less, and all my PBs from 5k to marathon have all been since turning vegan, so it suits me. Agree Bosh are generally pretty good although I don't find all of their recipes work. The Buddhist Chef does a cracking Seitan recipe that I use quite a lot. I’d put myself in that bracket Matt and really have made a conscious effort to replace things as and when. Shoes for instance I am replacing as they wear out rather than just buying loads of new ones. It’s my intention this year to really ensure that I am supporting smaller businesses, both local and on internet such as yours. I started a vegan diet for health reasons but the more I learn the more ethical it has become.

I think that is a theme with many people Joopsy mate. Certainly I was all about health reasons to start with, I blame Scott Jurek , and it was jut a dietary choice but now am fully committed (as you have probably worked out ) The small business thing, vegan or not, is something I'd like to see everyone do. Many people do their weekly shop with me but I am realistic enough to know that many can't afford to do so. Yes my produce is top quality and ethically sourced but because of that I clearly can't compete on price. It's just doing that you can where you can isn't it? We have an independent coffee shop next door to me, Humble, lovely little place, competitively priced, and yet I still see people posting pics on instagram sat in Starbucks or Costa having driven past Humble. Makes me sad I won't lie. Hi Ron, and welcome, yes the health benefits are indisputable in my book too, whatever the dairy and meat industry funded research tries to tell us. Yes you must make sure you get the right balance but that is the same with any diet isn't it? |

Don't hate me for saying this please. I was fully vegan for 3 years, not just plant based diet. Earlier in the year I wasn't very well and felt I needed something else in my diet, mental health stuff meant I didn't have the spoons to deal with it at the time and added a little bit of chicken occasionally. I'm trying my best, my spoons are replenishing, but I'm waiting on some blood test results to check b12 levels, then I'll be able to adjust as necessary. I want to be fully vegan again, I will be, but I'm not right now. Mostly plant based diet, make up, toiletries, clothes, yarn etc all vegan.

Why would anybody hate you Purps? My kids choose to eat meat and that is entirely their choice, I get really pissed off when people just assume that I am really evangelical about veganism. It’s something I believe strongly in for me but don’t think it makes me any better than someone who doesn’t.

Because I was vegan and I can't say that at the moment. I've (hopefully) never been preachy about it, accepted others choices. It worked for me, but I felt something was off, so made a choice based on what I felt was best for me at the time.
