Oh, and to answer Ros: still single figure runs for me, so not great, and definitely not what was planned for this year.

GG it is impressive that she achieved it whilst raising two small children but that sort of juggling is the norm amongst the vast majority of the people that set FKTs in the UK. The only real exception in recent UK FKT history is Killian and you could possibly argue that Damian Hall is now a runner who writes rather than vice-versa but the others are all have normal jobs and family responsibilities (e.g. Sabrina - Vet, John Kelly - CTO and father of four small kids, Beth Pascall - doctor, Steve Birkinshaw - University Researcher, Jasmin Paris - Vet and mother of two small children, Nicky Spinks - farmer) professional ultra trail runners don't really exist in the UK there simply isn't the money (the most that those that people think of as Pros get in reality is free kit, which is helpful but doesn't pay the bills).

:( hope you can get going again soon D, this last year hasn't been good for you.

I should have taken up running in my late 30s/early 40s when I had 3 young kids and a silly-busy career. I survived for years on 3 or 4 hrs sleep a night, swam a mile every lunchtime and got an awful lot more done outside work than I ever manage now I'm older and retired.
The adage about if you need something done give it to a busy person probably applies here somehow, once you learn to live on coffee and adrenaline anything is possible.

Unless you can get on the pro Sky Running circuit and be picked up by one of the big sponsors it's never going to be a primary source of income. I think there were a few Brits starting to me a living (or at least a profit) from it pre-Covid.

A large part of me would like to see it stay the current way ... but that might just be because nobody's going to sponsor me ;-)

Whenever I see Charlotte Purdue advertising Revvies on social media I think the ultramarathoners who have kept their day jobs have been very wise.

That is a very good point flyingfinn and there are many phenomenal runners out there I was listening to a pod cast (Young Hearts Run Free) interview Vic Owen (The Happy Runner) she said that people often think she must do this full time.

However she’s full time carer to her brother, fully home schools the kids, works & is becoming self sufficient so growing own food.

So while I recognised Anna as a non pro I do recognise the vast majority are not professional athletes. Instead they are super heros.

Following all the comments after my post last weekend my 20+ run yesterday I decided to push for 30 then figured might was well go for 50k (rounded to 31.5) it went well.

Total time on feet was 7h 50m there was a good 20min shopping in town then queuing for food. I had problems with my shoes (I wear vibrams & no socks) and little pebble chippings kept getting in so my shoes were off loads.

I met my mam at 22m she ran 8m with me. Despite me being tired it still slowed me down a little as I was running her pace (shes 76 & bloody amazing). Mum brought me socks which helped a lot.

I failed miserably at a consistent pace I tried running x min walking x min but I think I’m better running when I can walking when I can’t.

Stopped for some chips... amazing!! And they kept me going for ages so they will feature on the day.

Other than my feet I felt fine whether I’ll stay fine for another 31m remains to be seen but I felt so much better than I thought I would and I can walk perfectly fine today.

Feet wise the run was 95% tarmac so I think on the day I’ll wear vibrams for the start which is largely trail and I’ll swap to inov8s when I hit the coast as my parents are meeting me there.
