Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Thanks for the speedy responses, DT its 100k

Rise of the ultra runners is making my event wish list grow 😂 that it started in the desert of Oman that is top of my list. I came back from a 7month secondment 5 years ago this weekend I’d love a reason to go back.

I read your time target after posting and then immediately knew 100 K

For me the thing is how far could you manage for one longer run say 3 weeks before the event and beginning to taper. Personally I’d like say a 35 or 40 mile outing even if it meant an easy week leading up to it. You’re at the very crux of a confidence building big day versus don’t overdue it and either get hurt, or wear yourself out

I was tempted to put in a second 30+ but thought I’d maybe left it too late? If I can I will definitely try even if I did the long run and a walk - would that count?

Tapering is more complex than training ;-) Seriously though everyone has differing approaches

I’d want my longest run around two weeks before and I’d do very little the week leading up to the event

Fab thanks I thought I’d have to stop my long runs 3-4 weeks prior. That might just work. If I mainly slow run/walk after that I should hopefully survive.

Problem for me is four weeks tapering would drive me mad and have me worrying about loss of fitness. I like to train hard then have two really easy weeks before my target event or race if it’s say 50 miles or more

You're in a much better place than I am, gg :) Looking good

I'm impressed by how you've managed to build up so well, I need to start getting longer days in.

I’ve done four 20 mile + runs in last four weeks. I just need to commit to actually doing more than ‘training’ now

I’ve started my tapers much later in recent races but on the other hand, I rarely run more than 15 miles in training

how much do you do between the 20s DT? do you have a 10-12 mile medium run in the week as well?
