I've loved mudclaws this winter, perfect grip for waterlogged clay with inches of standing water. They're falling apart after 4 months though.

Snoot
Tried my x-talon 255s out again for a trail / road mix yesterday after last disaster (snow / Reynolds / shredded heels) and came back with a calf niggle ☹️ Not sure if it’s a coincidence as they have the same drop as the 200s??

The wee beastie
I've just got a place in my first ultra, forty miles at the end of July. Are there any training plans that you recommend that I can adapt to my needs?

Had a stalk of your training, wee beastie - it looks like you do good mileage already I'm no expert... As a beginner ultra runner with much lower mileage, I'm adapting the one on this page relentlessforwardcommotion.com for my 50 in July it's very similar to the one in Relentless Forward Progress Book which is usually recommended. There's also a popular plan on the Ultraladies page ultraladies.com Old hands will be along shortly, I should think |

I liked the ultraladies 50 mile one when I was doing my first 50 (no, I'm not a lady, so?! ) I do think there is something very individual about ultras. It very much depends what you are looking to get out of them. Some people walk a lot (more than 50%) of an ultra, so fast walk training would seem sensible. I was *not* well trained for walking and really felt bad when I was walking sections. Worse than I did when running a marathon or even a 33 mile ultra that I could run all of. And then there's eating... you don't eat sandwiches in a marathon, but you do in an ultra! But that's another whole topic! G |

Looking at wee beastie’s race times I suspect eating sandwiches might not be on the agenda

The RFP plan from the book for 50 miles on higher mileage might suit better

I could take a pic - but that's probably not completely legal is it?

Which one is it? Road or mountains, track, loops? etc

Wow wee beastie your mileages made me tired looking at your plan! I’m doing my first 100k the plan I initially looked at and I’m basing my training loosely on is this one. I picked it as it gave me structured weeks rather than some which the runs were different days, I know I won’t do the long runs every week some weeks I will split into runs & walks. files.convertkitcdnm.com |
