I did the VVLM in October. I’ve done a few longer runs upto 13 & some 10+ and back to back to get me to the 20m Mark.
Being close to home I could cut the in short or as I did extend. I am also scared of injury and doing lots of stretching which red to do now.
You did amazing last week LGJ I thought of doing 2 10-12 mile loops but the 5.5 keeps it about the same as aid stations on the run. You were amazing last week.
Thanks both

that makes sense gg, I didn't manage anything long at all last year - severe lack of motivation when all the events got cancelled.
I think I'll stick to my very cautious approach - I have time

NE, I find the 275s too supportive and prefer the more minimal feel of the (heavier!?) 290s.
I'd hoped the ultra 260s would be a good ultra shoe, but while the grip is great they're just too unstable and too high around the ankle. It's a shame as otherwise I really like them (even on road!) apart from on wet rock, where I find the grip awful.

I have an old pair of Roclite 282s (they were "born" on here in Oct '14 so I assume they were a 2013 model) which were the Goretex waterproof ones, but the uppers have so many splits in they've not been waterproof for a long while. A second pair that were supposed to be the same, but not waterproof, were completely different and my daughter took them as walking shoes. I was hoping the 275s would be a replacement - but walking around the house last evening, they feel completely different.
All the constant changes make it really hard to choose what you like and stick to it.

Yes - I’ve never been able to find the same shoes twice with inov8. Or maybe I’m a cheapskate and only buy them on sale. Whereas I’m on iteration 22 of the mizuno model
That might change as they’re now back to independent as the founder bought them back from the Japanese parent company

It is me FDNB 😃 I’m doing race to the castle. Hoping to start running some sections when restrictions ease.
I am fed up with inov8 messing with a perfectly good shoe. It’s getting harder to buy replacements. I hate the bug chunky sole that’s appearing.
Found some 235 flites for a decent price and debating whether to buy them in case I can’t get them when mine need replacing.

Flanker - I know what you mean. I'm heartened that you have the same impression of the Roclite 275, it just goes to show we all have different needs from a shoe. I also have a pair of 305s on standby, but haven't really ran in them much so am reserving judgement.
Re the 260s again, looking back I've done some reasonable distances in them and their predecessors, stuff like the HPM and TdeH, even the Cumbrian Traverse and Bobs did her Joss in a pair. I don't think they're an ultra shoe in the classic mould, but they do have a place on the rougher terrain. I get what you mean about lack of stability and it hasn't helped my tendonitis, that's for sure. I have been trying Sidas orthotic insoles in them with a 1mm noene liner, jury is still out there.

I want to like the 260s as they are almost a really good shoe (as were the x-claws, until they fell apart ) and are great on boggy ground. But I've had two really bad ankle injuries in them over the last 6 months that have virtually stopped me running. I'm sure they've been partly my fault (both were on easy ground after rough stuff and I think I switched off) but the lack of stability, lack of feel, and lack of a secure hold on my foot once it's started to go, has definitely contributed. I now have no confidence in them, and I think I'll be keeping them as a walking shoe, for which they're really good. It's back to the 200 talons for fell, as they work for both long and short.
Which all, as you say, goes to show choice of shoe will always be very individual

NE - do you think the Hierros would cope with the L50? They're so comfortable and I find stable enough but not "clumpy"
I've found a pair in the sale and am tempted to buy a second pair before my size disappears
