Anyone else get a northern traverse flyer through the post today? I have no idea how I got on their mailing list, but am sure tempted by the new short bit in the middle across The Dales .... |

So, as we are discussing headtorches - I want one that doesn't use custom rechargeable batteries, but instead something standardized so that I can charge one battery while using another, and also not be reliant on charging inside of the headtorch. At the moment I am leaning towards the LedLenser H8R: ledlenser.co.uk Main benefit I see is that it uses standard 18650 batteries, plus they even sell a battery box that holds 2 batteries to charge them, but can also be used as a USB power supply if needed. I have an older H7R.2 from them that uses a custom battery that you can replace with AAA cells which is great, basically the same light unit as the H8R just a different back part, but the battery can only be charged via the headlamp and the USB connection has got damaged, making it a right PITA to charge these days... hence my wish for something that just uses normal rechargeable cells. So, any other suggestions? |

I'm using Ledlenser NEO10R which appears to be a sports specific version of the one you're looking at. Main difference being the battery pack is vertical. Also came with a chest strap but I haven't tried that. Happy with it. One 18650 lasted through the night. |

I looked at that one Stu, but several of the comparison reviews put me off, and now I'm trying to remember why so I can get your thoughts. But ... old man memory... Possibly bulk? And maybe too warm a light hue? 🤷🏻♂️ The Fenix range also use the 18650s iirc, and get a lot of good feedback. |
