I think always issues for Thames Ring due to the race length, the later CPs open more than 24 hrs? I used to work by CP2 so marshalled there before but it was only open for 6hrs or so

Or is it people getting fed up of commercial organisations putting on races and relying on staffing it with people working for free so they can make a profit? I'll now only volunteer at not-for-profit events, be that club races or otherwise. |

I’d volunteer (and have done) at an event for a free entry into a race! Or do they just expect volunteers to volunteer for the fun of it?

I wouldn't really say that Lindley is trying to get rich of running the events. I would volunteer if I was in the country, it's a race I want to run at some point.

Usually races offer free places to volunteers the next year - for the shorter races Lindley definitely does this (possibly not a place in the TR250 but another event) Ironman’s volunteer strategy is appalling as they charge competitors £500 and rely on volunteers (free tshirt and pasta party as payment) to help them generate profits for the private equity fund owners. Apparently they even asked people who deferred events to consider “donating” the entry fee if they could |

Why pay volunteers in race places when you can just give them rubber bands? Very clever ironmanfoundation.org

Is it still on behalf of the TRA? It’s years since I was involved, I have to say I’m with flanker on this. Too many people creaming off the top and targeting posh twits with more money than sense - it worked in triathlon.
