We're looking to buy as well. Have seen one we like on for £375k. Does a cheeky offer of £360k sound crazy? We are fortunate not to have a chain at either end and can afford to go much higher, but the market is so weird at the moment (plateaued) that we're really not sure what to go in at. It's leasehold, but with a share of the freehold.

That's not too crazy. Mine was on at OIEO 475k and they offered 455 to start. We accepted 470.

It can depend on how long it's been on the market. Also sound out the estate agent.

And make sure you've done your homework on Rightmove and Zoopla. You might think the property is over priced. We knew ours was worth the asking price, though some agents had recommended starting much higher.

It's actually only just gone on, but it's leasehold, so might not sell on so easily. Kind of hoping the owner would be happy to just get it over and done with.

I am stuck between lots of rocks and hard places. Work is hell and people have been leaving which makes it worse for me. I need to stay for a mortgage or get a new job now, stay at my friend's for six months and hope I make probation. I've applied for a better job in the same faculty but in another building. My current job is untenable in a depleted team and the panel on that job will know how our management have fucked up. I hope I get an interview; I'm desperately unhappy and coal-face staff are suffering due to mis-management. I also fear if I stay I'll be tainted.

Sounds tough Red. Best of luck :)

We're three weeks away from moving out of our home, but several more from having a new house to live in after our first pick fell through. We will be right I guess, but a short-term let and our gear in storage is looking likely

We did that a few years ago DT. Not ideal, but it was quite fun, we sort of camped in the temporary place, left most stuff packed. Moving twice did encourage us to get rid of lots of stuff before we packed it up.

Good luck RS, sounds awful.

DT, we're currently doing that by design. It's worked for us, although I'm sure a lot of people would say it just adds to the stress. Will be glad to have more space again though.

Have had an offer of £375k accepted, so should be moving around Christmas.

Stef, my wife, is a genius. We have packed a load of stuff and marked the boxes A, B or C. A is stuff we'll need wherever we are. B is first stuff to unpack when we are settled in our new home, and C is 'manana' stuff like holiday clothes nerd
