The point of that lengthy post was that even a house in reasonable condition can take up time and money to make your own.

Indeed HP. But it will be 'yours'.

I saw a house yesterday which was right location, right size and number of rooms and well kept. But the decor was old fashioned, not at all to my taste, and the kitchen sound but also old fashioned. The carpets looked quite new but were dark red, wtf? To make it work for me I'd have knocked kitchen into dining room and redecorated everything. The garden needed cutting back and wouldn't get much sun. I'm sure someone will snap it up and do a makeover, but it was too much work and too much money for me. In fact it already sold once, in April, but fell through.

Talking of falling through, a colleagues house sale fell through on the day of exchange. His buyers pulled out at last minute with no excuse. Turns out they'd spotted another house in the village with potential to knock through to adjacent house (adjacent occupant being in a home at present). He knows the vendors of that house and has warned them and they've pulled out of sale too! Which is small satisfaction for a lost sale but a nice bit of karma!

Hope the milk didn't soak a carpet Meglet! From what I've seen and heard of your house HP, it sounds lovely.

I'm not having much luck finding anything. Looked at a hobbit house yesterday. Seriously tiny, in a great location but still too much money for me anyway. Needing to move further out now but have to be close to train station for commute.

As you can see, the kitchen door is a massive issue and would need to be removed. Check the measurements!

It did RS. All over hall carpet and walls. I threw tea towels down, cleaned off the worst, and went straight to supermarket and hired a carpet cleaner. It seems ok, can't see where it is and it doesn't smell!
That bottle of milk cost me £24 and I still had no milk!!

Expensive milk Meg.

RS you need to come North you get much more bang for your buck and the lifestyle would suit you well I think.

Saw another house today. I came away thinking it was perfect but now thinking the bedrooms are a bit small and it's overpriced for a three-bed, albeit recently done up to a high standard which is to my taste.

If I get an offer on mine I'll go and view again, along with the (much cheaper, bigger bedroomed) townhouse I like, and take both Teens with me.

Neither have chains as both have been rented, but hearing that searches in Harrogate are taking 6-8 weeks! :-o

RS have you got a deadline when you need to be out?

I agree with you on both counts HP. The lifestyle and the prices would suit me and I'd be closer to my family on both sides. I have amazing friends in Bristol though and because I'm on my own, that's very important to me. I'm having an awful time at work at the moment as we're seriously short-staffed, plus my Mum's really struggling with her health. My pals have kept me sane through all that and give me sanctuary when it gets really bad. It has recently. Work is hell.

Meglet, no firm deadline yet. Thought it was end Aug but I think that will move.

Prices have gone up again eastside, so I've had to go back to my original idea of buying a one-bedroomed property and hoping to extend some time, even if only an insulated conservatory. I would have thought I could sell my one-bedroomed flat and move up to a 2-bedroomed property but it's not going to be the case.

Hann .... Is your chapel along these lines in terms of layout? rightmove.co.uk

Top one freehold; don't know re: the bottom one.

The viewers from the weekend want to come back tomorrow.

Need to organise some 2nd viewings and take my teens, I'm working most of this week and they're away again next week so a bit limited on time!

Neither of those properties were any good, although the open plan house was lovely with an amazing garden and great location. Suitable for a couple really.

Back to looking at houses but further out.

Your second viewing sounds promising Meglet. Good luck!
