I have now joined my new club , not sure on vets league schedule but don't see me racing on the track before June.
Options are anything below 1500 as I'm happy to run them.
No field events planned unless I retrain to long jump off my right leg

OK, track specialists...What's the best warmup for a 1500m? I have one tomorrow evening, and want to give it my best shot.

I don't know about anyone else but my warm up is my warm up and not specific to the distance I'm racing. All about doing what works for you.

Same here. Warm ups are very personal - but it does take a while to discover what works best for you in a comp situation.
I guess it's different for an MD runner but for a masters power events person like me it's necessary to fire everything up ...but crucially don't do too much and lose any edge.

Did a double session at track last night - an hour or so of throws (first coached throws for ages)and then my usual sprint session.
I took it slightly easy as I'd had my second Covid jab the day before.

Hi, just wanting to join in the discussions here, hope that's ok? I'm a recent M50 and looking to do a bit more track this year. Have had a few injuries recently but back on the track sessions. My M45 bests were 800 2.21 1500 4.40 mile 5.03 3000 9.48 3000sc 11.36 5000 17.08. Obviously not had a race in a while so no idea how close I could get to any o them now. Have a mile race in 3 weeks and had been hoping to go sub 5 but interrupted training means I am more likely to be around 5.10. But I'll throw my aims in to give myself accountability, 800 sub 2.20, 1500 sub 4.40, mile sub 5, 3000 9.45 5000 sub 17.00, 3000sc sub 11.30. Have no expectations but hey, aim high

Welcome markgall. Yes all welcome to join in here. I've added your targets to the header. Good luck.
I agree with that Sharkie. "fire everything up ...but crucially don't do too much and lose any edge" seems like a good guiding principle for warming up. Just got to find what does that for you personally.

Happy to be able to tick off one of my goals. Ran 4:55 for the 1500 tonight, which was something of a surprise because I was feeling pretty run down from overwork and tight-chested from asthma. I'm so unfamiliar with these things that I got the pacing wrong and ran the first 400m in 71s (78s was the plan), but slowed things down for the 2nd lap. In the end I feel I could have run 3-4s faster this evening if I'd pushed harder at the end (I was expecting a collapse which didn't occur), and maybe another 3-4 seconds if I was feeling better at the start. Still, got the 'number', so I'm happy enough with that!

Congrats J2R. Definitely sounds like there's more to come if you can PB off a 71 sec first lap!

Thanks, SPR. I think slamming on the brakes for the second lap rescued it for me. I think my splits were 71, 83, 81, 60. As I said, I was fresher than I should have been at the end and could undoubtedly given it a little more for the last 300 metres, but you just need to learn about these things.
It was an odd running experience again, as so many of these track races have been. My race was 6th in a series of 10 1500m races, with runners banded according to predicted finish time. There was me, another running friend in his late 40s, and 8 small boys, all of whom shot off at the start as if fired out of a cannon, typical kid-style. I ignored all but my friend, who is a slightly faster runner than me on road but had never raced a track 1500m before, and stuck as close to him as I could until he pulled away in the last lap. We overhauled 6 of the kids after about a lap.
I think I'd do better if I was running alongside others more experienced at these things whose pace wasn't radically different from mine. I knew the first lap was faster than I had planned but I was genuinely shocked when I heard the lap time called out. I think it probably takes a LOT of track experience to nail the feeling for pace. Although maybe I should spend a bit of time in my local park running 400 metre repeats until I can reliably hit 75 seconds, say, by feel, without looking at my watch.
