That made me smile CK2. In the latter years before having to be moved into the care home, my grandparents 'adopted' a neighbours cat!

I realise I'm incredibly lucky in that my parents are in relative good health and capably independent, although I know that can quickly change. My son took them to the local garden centre today as it was mum's 94th birthday. Tomorrow is dad's 90th birthday:

Congratulations to them both.

Speaking of birthdays my mother in law ( Alzheimer’s ) sent birthday cards to my twin boys for their birthdays yesterday. In one she had but from Nana and grandad and the other fromauntie Pamela and Uncle Malcolm. ..... I think father in law may need to supervise this task a little more

That is an absolutely wonderful photo :) :)

Oh dear Doc.

MiL is not taking her medication. It's been in dossett boxes but she has no idea how to use them. Unfortunately she's been telling us she does, so we only found out the other day. I arranged to ring her night and morning to talk her through it.
She's also definitely not eating. We really need to have a carer come in to make her some food and help her with her medication, but she's absolutely against it.

Lovely photograph.

I hope your boys took it ok Doc. We've had to sort/supervise FiL as MiL's birthday today.

Sorry you have more MiL stress to deal with Carp.

Doc I have a similar tale from this morning. For months now she has been asking 'when is son2 moving?' At last, I can tell her 'next Wednesday.' So I got her a choice of New Home cards, she chose one...and wrote 'To son2, Happy birthday, love Nanny.'

I suppose it was a new thought too far :-(

The old boy is coming up North on sunday. He's packed a jumper.

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
