I am doing standard DLs rather than R; I don't feel anything in my lower back and am definitely engaging glutes. Will stop worrying about it! Hammies are and always have been very tight, which is another thing entirely (and something I want to work on for rowing).

I do RDLs with a KB - it's one of the only exercises where I use a mirror to check things like hip position.

My coach had me doing axle clean & press today for the first time in absolutely ages (the axle bar is about the thickness of a coke can and fixed, so the sleeves don't rotate like a normal barbell does). Managed to work up to a single at 62.5kg (65kg wasn't quite there today) and a single clean at 70kg. We finished with a set of 10 at 40kg - sneaky cardio and grip work!

I was wondering if this would be a good idea for squats and chest press?

I was trying to find a photo of ours set up for when I do bench press, Pix, but I don't have a photo. Here's a couple of photos showing them put to one side when I was doing my deadlift session. I think they're similar.

Mr Ness uses them more than me. Very useful.

I wonder if a set of car axle stands would be cheaper…

Maybe. Not something I have looked at as an alternative, cath. These ones work well for me and Mr Ness. We put weight plates on the base to counterbalance when we're using them and Mr Ness spots for me. I also use them for my band assisted pull-up practice.

Oh wow, they go up pretty high…?? Car axle stands wouldn’t do that :-)

... a weights wire for women.

And in case you're wondering about that title, well, I like alliteration and one can be too po-faced about the use of girl/lady/woman.
