It can be a fine judgement: teachers have 'off' days too, and may issue a sanction greater than it would usually be - but they're bound by policy and procedure regardless.
Without cheeky & articulate students, teaching & learning would be dull indeed.

Here is a visual that one of our EPs created re: 'behaviour management'. Scotland is not getting it 100% right in terms of education but I think we have the right thinking in relation to behaviour. We are aiming for the column on the right. The Tories seem to want to go back to the column on the left.

Wow that’s great HP. Even where I fall between middle and right column (and I’m not an educator) it gives a framework for discussion

Yeah I aim for right hand but fully acknowledge that middle is ingrained. So when 5yo nephew visited there was a lot of ‘if you don’t do x, then you won’t get y’. Key thing is that strategies from middle rarely work without the relationships.

I love that. Thank you. Perhaps a change of school is sthg to investigate again. They are definitely on the left.

So it turns out that what the teacher said to LittleD was 'I've taught year 2 children with more self control than you'. Wtf? Are we in the 1970s?

That's dreadful Linds. I'd be furious. Perhaps that teacher should just go and teach year 2 again. Year 8/9 have a hell of a lot more going on.
