As Jeremy Bowen said in his report from Odesa this lunchtime, this withdrawal to the other side of the Dnipro is one of the most sensible decisions the Russians have made, as it's far easier territory to defend and makes the Ukrainian task to dislodge them far harder.

I’ve long thought that is a possible end game border, as it would protect the flanks of the Crimea, which must be a key part of Russia’s thinking. The river itself eventually flows through Kiev so not adoptable as a wholesale solution you’d think. |

Ukrainian babushki (grannies, little old ladies) are a tough breed. This one nicked a load of ammo from the Russian occupiers: twitter.com And this one is chortling at the sight of Russian tanks burning in a nearby village: twitter.com |

Speculation it may be air defence missile off course. Which would be awful and send the Moscow conspiracy machine into overdrive, but it wouldn't have happened if there weren't cruise missiles being fired at Ukraine on a daily basis. Either way, this was predictable and wherever the tragedy stemmed from, to me it underlines my thought that NATO should have nipped this in the bud the millisecond it became apparent the red army is shit. Also, reports the Ukraine has landed forces on the east of the dinipro |

Regardless of what the investigation turns up, and the pointers are that it was an air defence missile gone astray, something needs to be done to stop the Russians from killing Ukraine's power grid. The Ukrainians are fighting with one hand tied behind their backs, and fighting for our own security. We should give them the long-range capability to reach into Russia in the same way as Russia reaches into Ukraine. The more we help Ukraine to win this war and get it over with, the sooner we can return to normality.

I was amused by Zelensky addressing the "G19" summit in Bali - the guy knows how to get under the Kremlin's skin
