FL, yes a rest, I'll try and remember that! I am taking it much easier this week (apart from the 10K PB attempt on Wednesday) so hopefully I will be nice and fresh on Sunday

20 miles today at an enjoy-yourself-get-around pace, which turned out to be an average 9:28mm, a lot slower than it was supposed to be, but who cares? Remarkably, I don't feel particularly tired, but I may revise that in the morning!

19 miles at an average of 10mm. Dropped to 9mm for the finish and caned the final kilometer to drop one on target pace for a 3:30. No idea at all how to hit that pace for another 41.2km.

Did my long run of 17 on Saturday - first 14 with a club mate who was struggling a bit even though we are normally well matched - probably about 9.15 average. I managed to hit 3.30 pace for the last 3 so was very pleased. Never been able to do that at the end of a long run before

I ran Helsinki marathon on Saturday just for fun, averaged only about 20 miles per week over the last 8 weeks because I just couldn't get my a**e in gear after the ultra in June. Longest run was 8.3 miles in that period.
Turns out that I can still run at marathon at a decent pace, 3:37:24, only about a minute slower than my unsuccessful sub 3:30 attempt in Milton Keynes in May but with maybe half the training. The whole marathon at 8:15 min/mi avg felt very comfortable, only got a bit tired towards the end. Apparently that's the way to go for me. No pressure, just enjoy myself and run.
Lesson learned, I won't beat myself up about target times any more, I'll just run my future marathons to feeling. If I manage to go sub 3:30 at some point, I'll be happy about it but it's not the be-all end-all.

Hi all,
I'm running the Abingdon marathon on 23rd October, and hoping to get under 3.30. This happens to be the day of my 40th birthday, so while my friends and family think I'm a certifiable idiot for running a marathon on my birthday, a sub 3.30 marathon would be just the ideal birthday present for me!
I'll start scanning through this thread looking for hints and tips.
Good luck to all!
