Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Thanks @larkim , na I just think itโ€™s down to bad luck this autumn.
I usually been ok before, even with harder training and more stress :)

Just have been a โ€perfect stormโ€ lately I guess.

@Bowman ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ช you can't beat yourself about why you can't run easy pace after more than 13 miles while being ill. I'm sure many of us have been ill and struggled with running full stop. Just seems something that you can't do anything about.

Yes probably so @Velociraptor .

I have also been thinking a lot this few hours and I wonder about the damn tapering too. Itโ€™s always a mess, and I never feel I benefit from it. Iโ€™ve tried 3 weeks Iโ€™ve tried 2 weeks and so on.
But it never feels like it works, maranoia and taperiatis aside.
Best one what when I decided to do a training one. And had 37km the week before, and a lot of miles leading up to the race, and just dialed down two days before. Maybe that works better for me.

@SPR yes you are of course right. But it feels like crap, all that nice fitness feels like itโ€™s just vanished :)

Cheers guys, Itโ€™s nice to get some support and encouragement from fellow runners who understands the feelings involved :)

Tough day at the office Bowman, but not one for which you should be beating yourself up. Just remember - we donโ€™t do this because itโ€™s easy, we do this because we thought itโ€™d be easy ๐Ÿ˜‰

Really sorry to hear this Bowman. My husband has got sick in the taper a few times (he's also chasing sub 3 off a pb of 3:01 - on paper he should be able to do it comfortably based on his performances at all other distances).

For him the suspected culprit is nutrition - he's been steadily and unintentionally losing weight through his marathon training the last few training blocks. He's been working with a sports dietitian and she's suggested that the sickness during taper is a reaction to the stress of training dropping away. He's working to try and eat a lot more so his body doesn't seem the training stimulus/higher mileage as so stressful. Dunno if any relevance to you but worth considering. You can definitely do it on the right day.

Thanks auburnette, I donโ€™t think have had any problems with nutrition of sorts for now, so far I believe it has been bad luck once or twice. People around have been sick a lot this autumn for instance. But if it keeps going like this, I definitely will have to take in all possibilities. But, I will sort this out.
