Beat me to it! The other thing I've just discovered with RA is that your can link a Google spreadsheet to your public RA page and get some nice data and make your own graphs without having to download regularly - it gets auto updated.

The reason I was interested in it is my VO2 Max has been a bit odd on the Garmin recently. It got up to 64 about a month ago (surprising but I was running well) but has dropped to 60 on the Garmin which is lower than expected (I've had niggles but training has continued).

Interestingly Runalyze has calculated 64.77 today while the file has 60.09 from today's run.

I've only got today's run on there ATM so can't see whether they differ by the same degree over the period. Hard to get old runs across ATM.

The new predictor on my 245 (I previously had a 230) has a 5k prediction for me currently of 18:12 which is laughable (A couple of years ago I ran 17:35 less than 30 mins after running a 4:29 1500, lol). Giving it the benefit of the doubt for now as I've only had it for a week.

The VO2 max thing started on the old watch so don't think it's a setup thing.

I’m never sure whether the VO2Max on Garmin is calc’d server side or watch side. I think it must be watch-side, so I suppose if there’s any change in the watch (i.e. new watch, watch reset etc) it messes it up. I’ve been really pleased since getting the Polar OH1+ HRM that the VO2Max calc’d by the watch only moves in small amounts, and typically has really closely matched my overall sense of fitness improving or declining. The key to it all is trustworthy HR data.

Didn't reset watch and drop happened on old watch. Possible HR settings somehow got changed though. Running HR was different to General when I checked. Running was correct so you'd expect no change but who knows.

When I get all the data over, I'll be able to see when the change happened and if it was gradual or a quick drop which would indicate a setting change.

I sent the activity across from the day my VO2max hit 64 on Garmin and Runalyze calculates that as 1.1 higher than today's run. That's a reasonable variation to explain.

It looks like a decent site.

Larkim - I'm pretty sure Garmin does VO2 calcs on the watch as it tells you as soon as the run finishes. I don't think it allows big VO2 Max changes from run to run though and lumps the rest under performance condition (how well you're running today compared to baseline).

I have seen a +2 VO2Max improvement on Garmin after 1 run (there is even a badge for it). It tends to happen on race day after a good taper.

I don't think the VO2 algorithm is very sophisticated, I think it's just pace per mile divided by HR. Faster, for lower heart rate = fitter. Fetch has it as a beats per mile in the training log. Lower is better. :-) G

HappyG, the VO2max algorithm has significantly been improved on the last generation Garmins. It does special stuff with HRV and stuff so I heard (I think there are white papers on the Firstbeat site)

As you say, must only be latest, most advanced Garmins because HRV isn't tracked on older/lower Garmins. I have to say, I don't even trust HR on mine! :-) G
