Oh and Gus, sorry to hear you've had injuries. Nice weather for cycling, but hope injuries clear up so you can run again too.

What times did you / mates post for the Ross Barkley 5kms, Brunski? I've enjoyed watching the ridiculous strava-wankering around that over the course of the last couple of months, although it's clearly not the sort of thing sensible folk like us should be doing

Nice mile Brunski.
Still can't imagine doing any virtual racing ATM. Hoping real racing is back before I'm ready to race.
Second highest May for me.

Well done Brunski. I haven’t done any virtual challenges but they seem quite good. Good for focus. Having got to mid March in my best ever shape, the lockdown has taken its toll with long working hours dealing with COVID19 stuff and drinking alcohol, my weight has ballooned by 12 lbs in 10 weeks. I’m not happy with myself and need to shake it up. Going to try a couple of virtual challenges.

5km worth of intervals, whether 100m, 200m sprints or 1km cruise are all pretty decent training sessions, even for marathoners PtB.
Stringing them together and pretending they are a 5km is another thing of course!
I couldn't even run downhill quickly on Sat hilly run. Slower let me savour the beautiful views even more. I'm happy to be able to run in lovely places, even if I can't run quickly. G

Thanks all, it was a really good fun competition and it helps we're all reasonably well matched (16:30-17:30 5k runners).
PtB these were my times (and placings)
Lockdown cup (May) results
4.54 mile (1st) Up the Clough 3:19 (CR - 1st) Millhouses parkrun 17:01 (2nd) Hallam Parkrun 17:26 (2nd) Ross Barkley 5k 13:30 (3rd 😠, should've been 13:10 but for a dodgy non pause at 2.98 miles)
The only rule on the Ross Barkley for us was a total elapsed time of 45 minutes.
I drove up a big hill, ran down it in chunks (walking back up a bit each break). Went a bit wrong at 2.98 miles when I thought I'd paused but must've double tapped and lost 20 seconds.

Hilarious that the one you're annoyed about is the Barkley 5k 😂

some very good running in all of that madness Brunski! How'd you feel the day after the Barkley (other than annoyed!)?
arbitrary targets for me WF. Trying to keep at 50 mpw is my one which means I have to run most days and get a couple of longer ones in over the course of a week. Got the virtual BMAF 5k relays in 10 days or so to focus on where I know I'll be racing Brunski (hilarious, I'll be a minute behind!).
that's all once I heal up after my fall on the trails this morning. My right leg is currently more ooze / goo / blood than skin. Yum....

Good to see the thread spring back into life over the past few days. And nice to see a few racking up the miles over the past month or so. Brunski those times are fantastic (especially) for solo efforts.
Gus I noticed you'd had some time off again with your calf, and hoped the return to running would be more permanent; fingers crossed it's nothing more serious than a few days rest can heal. whiteflash, we're in difficult enough times as it is without being too hard on yourself, just do what you enjoy.
Like Gus, I've had a calf injury (picked-up in the last few days of April), which meant I didn't run a step in May. This was especially disappointing given April was my highest mileage month in almost 2-years (despite still being low). Thankfully, however, I could still cycle without any calf issues, so I managed over 500 road bike miles last month. The calf has finally been feeling better walking around the house in the last week or so, so I may try an easy test run in the next few days.

G - "5km worth of intervals, whether 100m, 200m sprints or 1km cruise are all pretty decent training sessions, even for marathoners PtB"
Well, that's true. But a committed RB 5km challenge is more like bonkers eyeballs-out downhill sprinting, with the traditional typical intervals ratio of effort:rest reversed. To allow for absolutely maximum chance of injury
whiteflash - thanks for taking care of those 12 lbs for me. That's more or less what I've lost since 25/03. I expect they'll be back in their rightful places soon enough :-). Sorry to hear about work & stress increases for you with Covid-19 (and for anyone else). There's many of us feeling just a little guilty about the amount of spare time on our hands when we stop and think about how some professions have been affected.
You putting a photo up WW?
