Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

First week back and took the buggy to Greenock for a Parkrun, 21:39 in very strong winds which even made the slight downhills hard.

Beginning of the week was tough but feeling much better between yesterday and today.

Hopefully build up some fitness I’ve the next few weeks.

Entered three 10k’s in May so would be nice to get to race at least one properly.

17 miles done today, last long run. Hard going, definitely happy to be in taper now. Won't venture above 10 now til race today.

Brunski - in answer to your question, I've only really adopted a few P&D sessions in the last few weeks, I wasn't even planning on doing a marathon until it became obvious I was in excellent form on the 23 mile long run with 5 miles at 7.10-7.20 pace. Since the offroad 10k, I've struggled a little and my legs are a bit trashed now, today felt hard although strava has revealed I was strong on the hills (a 3rd and a 4th place on a couple of difficult segments), even though I didn't feel I was doing anything special.

The marathon course is flat barring one non-too bad hill around 8 and 18. There is a 5 or 6 mile session off road on the cycle track the Greenway, I have been training a lot on cycling tracks here. Sub 3.15 is probably a bridge too far, but I am not writing it off, it will be a pb attempt (sub 3.20 therefore).

It will be a very easy taper, I've done hard ones and they do me no favours, rest will be my greatest ally I suspect now.

Boston Uk today last week or so I was thinking sub 3:20 this morning whilst having a pre race coffee in the market square I wrote some splits for 3:17 on my hand.
Race started and soon found my self in a nice group that stayed together for first 10 miles or so at sub 3:17
Had a little tumble just after 8 miles which means a little bit of me is still on the Boston roads

After ten miles I found myself running with the 3rd lady at sub 3:15 pace and decided to try and keep it going.
Felt quite good until last couple of miles but dug in for a chip time of 3:13:13 so very happy 😃 a Pb by over 14 minutes

Great run Riggsy. Some of us here tried to put you off, glad that you ignored that now!

Well done! What’s next?

Thanks everyone

Velociraptor- the wind in parts especially running towards the wash was testing.
Windsor wool the advice I got on here was good advice but on the day I felt good and risked it. It could have blown up in my face

Next race is in June a 14 mile mainly off road race that will also serve as a recce for a twenty ish mile run for the next lot of marathon training

Next marathon will be the Rother Valley one in November

Enjoy the taper Chris
