Train faster, race faster works, make it a gradual progression as a word of cautioned. Nothing happens in this game overnight.

If there is a difference between PMP and MP then there is a disconnect (perhaps from an unreliable conversion from a shorter distance). MP is all that matters.

*waves at Dr. Dan* Great write up. I was going to mention your high levels of cycling mileage as well.
Interesting about carb levels after parkrun through to Sunday.
I have treat of a piece of cake (homemade obviously) after Saturday races... maybe something I should think about and move my cake treat to after Sun long run.
You can keep carb loading for A races though

Yeah it's never as simple as train faster as anyone can train faster.

FIRST may be lower mileage but it ain't low in my view. And not every can train faster as illustrated by the volume of injuries .

Hi Curly My levels of cycling are far from high ... I'm just a bike commuter. Regular mileage but rarely more than 10 miles in a day. Any half serious cyclist will trump my weekly mileage every Sunday morning.
Felnand - yes, it's not low, especially when total training volume (inc x-training) and intensity and thrown into the mix.
WW - the "science stuff" just boils down to how you train and what you eat. That's just as important to 3-3:45 runners as it is to elites.

Looking at that FIRST plan, its probably not too far away from what I done in my 1st marathon. I run avg 7:15 pace on the day but just checked my training log and my long runs of the campaign (15+ miles) were as follows:-
15 @ 7:39 17 @ 7:28 15 @ 7:34 18 @ 7:37 18 @ 7:28 15 @ 7:27 20 @ 7:28 15 @ 7:14 18 @ 7:22 (final run 2 and half weeks out)

Fenland/ Dr Dan - Anything under 50mpw is low mileage for a marathon

LOL Joe, some people hit and exceed their targets on less than forty!

Their targets/expectations maybe but probably not their capabilities.
Paul a - I always take MP as current marathon pace (achieved recently) and PMP as target marathon pace. So at the beginning of say a 12 week programme there is quite a difference
