J2R, if I was 61 running 36 mins I would be super pleased with myself. Even comparing yourself to a WR holder shows how far ahead you are of 99.99% other runners. Feel proud, and good luck.

Thanks Damo - marathon pace sessions have been fine - longest was 12 miles at 5.57 during a 17 miler. My top-end speed at shorter distances like parkrun and intervals is not what it was though - I've barely gone sub-17 this year, whereas pre-injury I'd be down in the 16.20s. Not sure how much that matters at marathon distance though.

Sounds like you’ll find out next week how much 5k pace matters. At least it should be a bit cooler than the previous week, good luck!
Anyone else still waiting for news on champs entry for London?

2.39.24 today, despite a horrible hamstring twang at mile 16. Pre and post-race blogs are up for your delectation!

Well done AJLB, good work keeping the thread alive
I also found it difficult to run a perfect marathon after such a long break. Sounds like you made a better fist of it than I did. And it gives you a decent benchmark for future improvements.

Thanks JFA - I think we should have t-shirts made: "Sub-2.45: keep the thread alive!"

Great run AJLB did you do it as an England masters event?

Thanks Chris - yes - aiming to qualify again at V45. Although I was first V45 on the day, my relatively slow time means that I assume the spots have been taken at the previous qualifying races - just have to wait and see...

Great running AJLB, sounds like you did well to complete it with the Hammy issues, and although the time isn't quite what you were aiming for you should take a lot from your ability to tough it out and finish 💪
I'm still hanging around this thread (like a bad smell). Last few marathons have been in the 2:53-55 range but not giving up hope of logging a sub 2:45 before I hang up my marathon shoes.
Next attempt for me will be London in October, whether it'll be a sub 2:45 depends very much on how the build up goes.

AJLB - I believe it’s first 3 per age cat per event that qualify so as long as you finish in first 3 on the day it doesn’t matter what happens in the other qualifiers. I sneaked in via Manchester but am torn between a 400 mile round trip and overnighter to Chester or 1hr down the road to London. Shame they are on the same day.
