Cheers Brunski - I went from 2.48 to 2.38 from one race to the next (magic shoes assisted!) so I wouldn't give up hope. The right build-up and the right day could do it.
That's encouraging to hear Macca - I can't remember when England Athletics let you know - any idea? I much prefer Chester to London, but they're about equidistant for me.

I got an email 9 days after Manchester confirming. From what I’ve read Chester sounds good but I think it will boil down to cost, logistics and a pass, in reverse order.

Another of my occasional posts to encourage those on here who think they're getting too old... A fast local 10K last Sunday was won by a 51 year old in a time of 32:06.

It's not that I'm getting too old, it's more that I never was that fast!

I’m guessing that was the gear 10k J2R? I was there but decided to let him have the win 😁
Although he’s still quick it would be interesting to know how quick he was 20 years ago.

Yes, Chris. Actually looking at his powerof10.info record, his time on Sunday was only 25 seconds or so slower than he was doing 10 years ago, and he's been hitting the same sort of times for the last decade. Astonishing consistency. Most people don't win big races at the age of 51.

At the risk of making this the "sub-2.45 for old folks" thread, I note that all but two of the top 10 at MK were Vets - and they were all sub-2.45. There was also a V50 just outside the top 10 and just outside 2.45. Given that it's not a particularly fast course that's impressive.

Great times, but magic shoes have definitely given a bit of a boost to what is achievable.

jda, sadly not for me! I haven't run a single PB in my Saucony Endorphin Pros. But the shoes aren't to blame.

Half the MK top 10 are in the 35-39 "veteran" category though - that's prime marathon running age in my book
