Can anyone point me in the right direction of a suitable training programme? I will probably just ignore it anyway but would be good to see what the conventional wisdom is anyway. I've also entered a 38 mile ultra at end of October so something with back 2 back long runs at the weekend would be good.

www.coolrunning.com goto Training Plans and Competitive marathon one. Ignore the mega longrun on the Sun but excellent balanced plan.

Welcome Damo. That's tough Baz after all the prep but that is marathon - so much hinges on the day. Like Jock says enjoy the holiday and then get out and enjoy the running.

I ran Buxton Half on Sunday - 1500ft of climb but the views were superb - I think that goes straight in as my #1 favourite road HM. I was getting left behind on the first long climb and slightly wary of what the previous week's racing might have taken out of me. But I gradually picked them off and came through to 3rd by the finish - thread back on the podium ;).
I'm really enjoying these hilly HMs where nobody cares about times or whose calibrated bike has attempted to approximate the distance. 1.21 yesterday but #itsallabouttherace

Baz, bad luck. That's the thing about the marathon, you need EVERYTHING to come together for you on the day, & sometimes it just doesn't. Good on you for toughing it out and finishing though. Bob, excellent stuff. Between you and JI you must account for 90% of the silverware on the thread!
I'm planning to do 10000m on the track this Thursday night (eeek. never run on the track before, it will be slow....) & then doing the Score class at the Highlander Mountain Marathon this weekend.

Just been out for a lovely run in France, close to the Belgian border. It reminded me of the joy of running and it was nice to just get out and run rather than bothering with stats.

Baz, sorry to hear that Edinburgh did not go to plan. I would follow JI's advice.
Damo, I loosely follow the P&D plans. I would suggest they are a good starting point. The structure of most plans are very similar, e.g. Run between 6 and 7 days a week. One long run upward of 16 miles, a midweek long run of between 10 and 14, a tempo run and padded out with some nice recovery runs.
Am still on the injury list. Finding it hard not to run as my left leg feels absolutely fine, no swelling or pain, however physio said 4 weeks off at least and this time I will be following his advice.
Was in NYC last week, and whenever I am there I make a point of running around Central Park. This time however I walked the perimeter of the park (about 7 miles). It was great to just take in the sights and sounds at leisurely pace, taking same great snapshots.

Back from a short break here, sorry to hear that Baz. Just what the guys say, rest & recovery. Body & mind. You`ll come back stronger.
