Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Oooh! Just a thought: possibly one of the masked riders that are chasing The Stranger over in Rhun?

The Ring Wraiths give me the creeps. From my first introduction to the LOTR radio play when I was pretty small, to the Peter Jackson films, they’re so sinister.

1981, so I was 10. We had a colour poster of the Middle Earth map with drawings round the edges, it must have been something you sent for from the BBC.

I don't think I even knew that the BBC had done a radio play of LOTR! I wonder if it's on YouTube or Spotify or something?

I grew up on Ralph Bakshi's animated version of the first half of LOTR and found his rendering of the Nazgûl even more unnerving.

Aside from the Witchking, there is only one other Ringwraith who is named in Tolkien's literature, Khamûl - the Shadow of the East. So he may well be one of those seen in the Rhûn plotline.

I saw the Bakshi version years ago and I agree that they were proper creepy but I'd already read the books and they creeped me out in their text versions!

About This Thread

Well, Amazon have spent an awful lot of money making a new series, and with great cheek/reverence released it on the anniversary of Tolkien's death. Will you be watching? Have you seen it? What did you think? I've seen the first two episodes, but no spoliers for those who haven't please!
