I was lying in bed reading a particularly thick standard-format paperback last night and wondering if a Kindle might be easier.

Kindle's are fine for fiction; however for autobiographies, a printed version works better if the book contains photos which are referenced in the book as you go. Kindle just lumps these at the end, and not always in an easily-viewable state.

Thousands of books here. Got rid of quite a few when we moved, and do have quite a lot on kindle. Probably buy about 100 per year, about 50/50 real books and kindle. My parents-in-law have a 1-in, 1-out rule which I should probably try to enforce here. I bought 3 books at our local bookshop last weekend and as the 'to-read' pile is approaching 20, thought that would probably keep me busy for a few months. Everyone who bought a book that day was entered into their prize draw and I won the £25 book voucher, so I'll need to go back... |

I read a lot on Kindle but some books are definitely better printed.

I wouldn't be without my Kindle - I have one on an stand in front of the treadmill and read it when I walk (more difficult when I run - I swapped it for my iPad today for my 2 hour long run). But I love physical books too, particularly when buying them supports a local business instead of the corporate monster (sorry cathrobinson).

I get mine from World of Books online. Used, although not always, and super-cheap.

Kindle just lumps these at the end, and not always in an easily-viewable state. It depends on the device Sigh. An actual kindle might do that but if you use the App on a tablet, for example, it works quite well. I have guitar practise books full of photos, diagrams and tablature. Awful on a kindle, perfectly find on my tablet. |

Meant to add. You can have your book on several devices and pick which you use. So for me, phone when out n about, tablet for guitar practise etc, kindle for reading before bed.

I love my kindle, just don’t have enough time for it. However just over two weeks until my Christmas break and I will hopefully get a good reading stint done.

I love books too, and don’t have a kindle. I like a paper book, but I now have a one in one out rule too - we can’t have more books than we can fit on our one bookcase. I also declutter frequently, but it’s a losing battle with my OH. |
