Ah, the loft. Camping equipment (we never go camping), ancient Canadian leather ice skates (no idea where they came from), bin bags of assorted children's toys, the tiles that were left over from the bathroom, a filing cabinet full of out of date correspondence, several years worth of cookery magazines, crockery and glassware that was deemed not essential when we had the kitchen refitted about 20 years ago (we obviously weren't wrong), an in-car dvd player, the list goes on.... I look at the cracks in our bedroom ceiling and worry sometimes.

Currently trying to improve the loft insulation so spending too much time shifting junk around the loft whilst I work on a section. Will sift through the stuff once the insulation laid down but already have a mental picture of what is going to recycling.

Why don't you just shift it the once @dobbers downstairs and straight out the door. When I bought my first house many years ago I swore never to keep things in the loft after seeing our loft at home. My landing and one of my current lofts holds quite a bit of stuff from my Mum's now. |

They just chopped all the furniture into bits and threw it down the stairs and into the back of a massive van........ 2 massive vans I was on first name terms with the guys who manned the local tip/recycling centre by the end of it |

I've just cleared one small room of my mum's old home. 5 bin sacks of rubbish, six equivalent boxes/ sacks to the charity warehouse. But buried in amongst that lot were also family photos, mementos, individually addressed letters from her to her children. And a copy of her will. 🤦♂️ I think it pays to be cautious about these things, now! |

When I was at mum’s she told me there was some money (a few hundred) in the dining room…. I never found it. So I know that when the time comes I’ll have to go slowly looking for cash too!

My mother-in-law stuffed all her clothes pockets with money ('for emergencies'!). Good job we checked everything before bagging it for charity shops, there was a couple of thousand in the wardrobe altogether.

I found £800 in the kitchen cupboard (she told me the location) and the implication was that this was the smaller stash. She kept it in case she needed to pay extra to the gardener! |
