Yes, we only came to Canada 11 years ago. I will a small Canadian state pension, and the UK one, which unfortunately is frozen at the amount you get when you first claim. I’m going to wait until the pension increase in april to claim

We had the cash stashed away saga, too (with knobs on!). MiL had an old Ostermilk tin stuffed with nearly £10k, “to pay for her and FiL’s funerals” 🙈. None of her children knew about it but our daughter remembered it from her childhood (and MiL telling her not to say anything about it!). |

FiL had a secret stash under the floorboards with a diamond ring and some other valuables. Luckily my wife knew about it, her bro didn’t and it would have gone down with the house otherwise. Mind you it’s not a large fraction of the whole deal. |

If my dad starts stashing cash in funny places I'll be requesting a cognitive assessment for him. It would be completely out of character. He likes earning interest.

I think for mum it’s thanks to Covid and not wanting to leave the house so it’s accumulating

Her driving licence is due for renewal, she’s not driven for months I assume she will merrily fill in the form with positive answers and get a renewal |

I know of two instances where people, not in direct family but very close, left significant sums of cash hidden and each with an interesting story/rationale that was disclosed to relatives shortly before the people passed away
