I think retiring at Christmas is pretty optimal really. No go-back in the New Year is pretty sweet.

I'd tend to agree - and it worked for me. But I've heard the theory that end of March is better: if you finish at Christmas then you start retirement with the darkest, coldest days, whereas finish end of March and you're coming into Spring/Summer

The start of Spring is also good. I think mine was about October.

Mine was May and was fabulpus. OH was September and he said it wasn't a great time as straight into winter etc

Finishing in September was great. I didn’t mind going into shorter, colder days. It made me appreciate not having to get up early on winter days.

I suspect the best time to finish ...... is when you finish.
Winter has always been a time I've focused on as a great time of year, with a birthday and Christmas in short order

I retired on July 19th (4 years ago).

If I had a DeLorean, that day would be my default option on speed dial 😃😃, just a magnificent day and couple of months following,

I retired end of May and really enjoyed that summer. Mrs HT is retiring at the end of next May and we have quite a few trips planned
