Roll the dice if that happens Daz - if the pay off doesn't come again you'd regret not taking it. The pay off can be invested etc and bring that retirement forward. Getting another job would put you in control of retirement rather than sitting in suspended animation for possibly years waiting for another scheme that may not come. Also opens up possibly going for a part time/lower stress etc job (which is what I did after taking a pay off at 53). |

What TRO said, Daz! That was my career "plan", except it didn't happen! The last mega-redundancy opportunity was 5 years too early for me, and it's never come round in quite the same form again, 7 years later! Of those who took advantage back then, I've yet to talk to any who regret it!

The Workers' Educational Association, founded in 1903, employed my Grandad to teach geology between the wars. In the 1980s & 90s, I ran courses in Palaeography and medieval languages for WEA in Leeds for ten years. The range has expanded since then. wea.org.uk |

I’m not sure U3A intends to attract keen and dedicated enthusiasts to any of its groups. Think of it as a “county line” shot to act as a gateway drug to the “real” activity. It’s already hooked Nick Cook 😁😁

My folks did a lot with U3A, mum was still walking with them until recently and goes to the occasional talk. Dad was a Probus member, not sure what they did it was a bit of a “retired gentlemen’s club” I think, but they went on coach holidays with them did charity stuff with the local Rotary group and they were very good to mum when dad was ill. |

Took fair effort to get all the ducks lined up, but replacement for the stolen truck will be delivered to me tomorrow at work.

@rosehip - I had heard of Probus as they had/havemeets at the golf club I play at. Never thought what it was until you mentioned here! Just looked up en.wikipedia.org Probus Clubs are clubs for retired or semi-retired people from all walks of life and may include business or professional people. The movement operates worldwide. |
