Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Just had one plant die from the heat. It was in a pot and had somehow missed it. Oh well the rain has come.

Seriously considering building more raised beds
Neither of us are gardeners

Garden was full of shrubs when we bought it

And ivy has invaded so current beds no use and soil is crap!

OH just pulled out some ties that he will probably never use except to use to dress up with at a retro party. The ties look great to convert into "business masks".

Good bye business ties!

EP - agree - raised beds are so much nicer to work with. Sounds like you need to dig out the soil in the current beds and replace. We dug a large bed out. I painstakingly removed the bits of roots (ivy).

Threw all my "not yet done compost" in + leaves, branches from a tree had to cut back + soil. The plants are loving it.

WFH is definitely becoming the norm even though some colleagues are starting to return to the office but only for a few days. I've been in 2 half days since March! Don't think we'll have the capacity in offices for a very long time for everyone to return so at the moment it's only go in if you need to or prefer to.

As others have said, a cashless society is a concern and it's not just the disadvantaged. My in-laws don't like the idea of using cards at all let alone contactless. Throughout lockdown their daughter who lives nearby has done all the shopping and they give her a cheque. I'm sure there must be many others of their generation with similar concerns?

Pre-Covid, there was an elderly lady having difficulty using her card at the bank. She couldn't remember its pin number. She had a lot of frustrations. The bank told me they find a lot of seniors have difficulty remembering pin numbers. It is normal. My elderly lady (95) across the road said that she used to go into the bank pre-Covid days. She finds it difficult to use the cashless ways.

It’s a bit of a shame about the ties - my OH loves his ties, and has amassed quite a collection, including two new ones he’d bought just before lockdown and hadn’t had a chance to wear in the office - seems a bit of a shame if they would never be worn again, although with the nature of his job we assume he will be back in for at least some of the time in the new year.

Perhaps some enterprising craft-y person could make masks out of surplus ties? Or matching ties and masks? Joking aside, I sympathise, my OH was a tie aficionado before retiring and so looks forward to wearing one on the odd occasion nowadays.

Having spoken to about 4 different companies, where the employees wore ties, all of them wore t-shirts and no tie. These are formal companies.

Jenny / NR - probably be something either like the dicky bow - guys wear it to define who they are - or at very formal / special occasions.
