Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

Any sort of weight would more or less work, I think- medicine ball with handles or kettlebell the best/easiest to use.

The weighted walking lunges with rotation are particularly good - great stretch on hip flexors and abs as well as strengthening them. Lunges should be deep and wide as poss while still controlled.

Walking squat: hold weight to chest - deep squat lowering weight to arms straight - spring up (to triple extension really) pushing weight above your head - spin round on one foot so you face the other way - weight back down to chest - and continue over 20m.

That's one exercise of 3 or 4.

I'm making a more concerted effort to do my core routine this month. I use an interval timer and do 30s of 30 moves, with 10s in between to rest or change position, focusing on five areas: back extensions, planks, glute bridges, hips and abs. Takes 20 mins, or sometimes I might do a shorter version dropping the hip and abs. As things get stronger I can change the moves to be more challenging but for now I think it's giving me a good base to work on.

My tactic of doing my core stuff after each run has been working well, but since my mileage has increased a bit (7s and 8s), I've found that my stomach muscles are struggling a bit more. But I'm also perhaps doing more vigorous sit ups than I was when I first started.
