It's black with 29" wheels. It comes with bog standard flat pedals. I'll keep those on at first. One of the reasons for getting the bike is so that I can just pop to the shop/town/go for a coffee, without having to faff around with cleated shoes and take trainers to change into at the other end!

Son went to a Nukeproof demo day yesterday and had heard that often demo days require individuals to take their own pedals. In a stunning symbol of how I have not "taught a man to fish", the 21 year old took his entire (broken) current bike and all my tools in the car to the demo day because he didn't know how to remove the pedals at home.

I got home and thought some peculiar burglars had stolen both his bike and the tools.

To be fair, in my limited experience, pedals can be a bugger to remove. But did you say to him "can I Google that for you"?

LOL, perhaps I should have.

If only he'd realised that a) all his pedals needed was an allen key and b) that I make sure the threads are greased so removal is pretty easy!

It was ironic because the night before the bike had the whole rear triangle removed and disassembled, two outer races from failed pivot bolt bearings stuck in the frame requiring removal and the cranks removed so it was a miracle his bike was in one piece when he came to put it in the car. I'm pretty inexperienced so far in life about doing mechanical stuff, but the world of google / youtube and a bit of a gung-ho attitude has had me fixing things on his bike that I suspect most people would steer clear of instinctively. And it turns out most of it is not really that hard to do, but requires some investment in the right tools.

Along a similar thread, I'll just sing the praises of Canyon for a second. His bike is a 6.5 year old full sus trail bike which he's ridden pretty hard as he's grown from being a 15 year old boy to a 21 year old man. A couple of weeks ago the chainstay snapped, so we got on to Canyon to see what could be done. Within an hour of using their live chat / email they'd responded that they'd have a look but couldn't guarantee anything. The next day they emailed to say they had the part in the warehouse on an old frame which needed disassembly, and four days later, FOC, the part arrived at home ready to be installed. For an online sales company which owed us nothing as the warranty period was long, long gone I thought that was pretty much stellar customer service. We often hear of the bad stories, so it's nice to be able to report the good ones too.

(And thereafter the new challenge of disassembling a rear triangle, removing stuck bearings and pressing in new ones commenced, with a few false starts and minor mishaps along the way).
