Actually, with electric car and solar, I'm still a net contributor to the grid! 5GWh exported from solar and 4.9GWh imported, this year 2.2GWh in, 2.5GWh out so far. I do have something that tells me what proportion of what I used is at the cheap rate, wee small hours when the grid has surplus, but I don't have that to hand. So my consumption during "busy" times is negative. I supply the grid, despite having an electric car! :-) G

Right outside my town. There is now a pretty good range of EV charging stops down the East Coast of Scotland. SSE just put in a bank of 10 south side of Dundee next to a Starbucks.

I'd like to see more in the rural tourist areas. NC500, Ardnamurchan, Macclesfield (:))

Anyone else noticed the dearth of insects (bees, butterflies this year)?

And this isn't just anecdotal, I do a butterfly transect (weekly walk the same route every week on a nature reserve, and I've not had any more than 2 butterflies on any given day, where as last year it was plenty more)

So, I'm off to a local hustings tonight. The Q&A session is based on the environment.

We can propose a question - the Chair selects a few to ask the panel.

What question would you want to ask?

We've had a ridiculous amount of rain this spring. I imagine it's not good for butterflies and the like.

Why have the Tories allowed for the devastation of our waterways by letting the water companies get away with polluting them for years (and for profit)?

Mushroom, does "environment" include global climate change or just local environment and countryside? If it's the whole gamut, then the single biggest question from me for each party (because of course a local constituency candidate can't address it directly) would be:

"What would your party be doing to address the climate crisis?" That includes: attitude to UK oil and gas extraction, reduction of CO2 into the atmosphere through transport, farming, industry, electricity generation, homes etc. and support for the global south disproportionately affected by climate change.

Be very interested to know what you hear from them. :-) G

HG - I believe it to be all encompassing - not just local issues. I'll feedback tomorrow!

I think water companies were privatized in 1989 so regulation and investment demands I'd say was not just a Tory watch issue but has spanned a lot longer.

About This Thread

Maintained by HappyG(rrr)
Hi
I've seen environment (whether emissions, power, climate change, access to countryside, whatever you think of as "environment") discussed in various threads: Politics (obviously), the Electric Car thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/electric-car-anyone-61481/ , run free's excellent "Competitive Running and Keeping The Environment Clean" fetcheveryone.com/forum/running-competitively-keeping-our-environment-clean-60907/ my own Greta Thunberg thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/greta-thunberg---jfk-for-the-climate-generation-61044/ etc. but I haven't seen a general one.

So here it is. For those interested in the science, the politics, the action for (and I'll state that for me, this is mostly pro-environment, anti-emissions, anti-pollution etc.) and the hope for the future of our planet.
