The Doctor K Cup

98 watchers
The seventh annual Doctor K Cup will take place on Saturday October 19th 2024

How to join in

Firstly, add the 2024 Doctor K Cup to your Fetch portfolio.

All you need is a GPS watch or app. On the day, RUN AT LEAST 5K WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH. The Fetch Benchmark system will pull out your fastest 5k from your run (so you can include it as part of your long run if you like). The person who gets closest to their prediction will be declared the winner (though the judges decision is final!).

It would be lovely if you could upload your 'K' pics to the gallery (make a K shape with your fingers) to help us remember Doctor K and all the Fetchies we have lost.

NB A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.

Just waiting for my run to be uploaded but it will be way off I expect. I’m happy with it though as it’s the 1st time I’ve run all the way without walking for months.

Thought a lot about the Fetchies who have passed on my run. May they all rest in peace.

Bournemouth parkrun for me this morning, which always measures long. The Fetch magic says I was 19 seconds quicker than predicted.

My time might be quicker than predicted because it looks like I’ll be doing a mostly downhill route.

I was actually 3.54 slower!

I was way out :-)

Am I correct in thinking * marks a short distance? So our current leader may be a DQ?

I believe so Alice.
I changed my prediction from 37:xx to 39:50 a couple of days ago based on last week's 40:07 parkrun time. I didn't look at Garmin whilst I did parkrun, but managed to run it all this week for the first time since March, then walked until after Garmin buzzed for 5k.
When my official parkrun time came through, I thought I was miles out but have ended up just 4 seconds away, so the course must have been quite a bit short. Good job I carried on!

It’s in!! If I hadn’t have changed my first goal I was 10sec off 28:55, instead I’m 64sec off. Oh well happy to have run faster than I thought possible. My recent 5ks have been nearer 33-34min! Over the moon even if nowhere near on this one.

I though the little asterisk might mean not confirmed by garmin. I don't know how to download to Fetch and have a little asterisk.

I take it back. It is in dr k results but not race portfolio.
48 secs off. 12 off if I had stuck with my earlier prediction.

About This Thread

2024 Instructions

Add the following race to your portfolio:

fetcheveryone.com/races/the-doctor-k-cup-10329609

Enter your predicted time by October 18th (the day before the run).

On the 19th October, run at least 5k WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH OR GETTING ANY PACING HELP!!!

RESULTS WILL BE POSTED HERE:

fetcheveryone.com/doctorkcup.php

Fetch will extract the results by looking at your benchmarks for 5k (so for your own sake, avoid tunnels, tall buildings, heavy tree cover, pylons etc). If you are running a local 5k loop, please add a bit on, just to make sure that your watch registers at least 5k's worth of data. But no peeking!

The person who is closest to their predicted time will win the 'Doctor K Cup' for one year.

NB Doctor K was a big parkrun fan - so you can do your run at parkrun, but ***PLEASE*** make sure you cover at least 5000 metres. A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.
