Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I also agree. It's more than generous

@sallykate I’m also in agreement that it’s a generous offer. When you do something foolish it’s natural that you want your Mum to sort it out at no cost to yourself (I’m sure I felt that way into my forties 😁) but sadly it’s the painful lessons you learn from.

She may also find that it is repairable much cheaper if she doesn’t go to the official Apple Store. Apple would say that work done not by them invalidates their warranty but that’s almost certainly not an issue after 5 years

Presumably an insurance claim would be counterproductive?

Thank you all. She has found a PC repair place to do it for a more reasonable price so is going for that. We'll still pick up half, but it's half of a much smaller number!

One of her friends had the same thought as you @Cheeky’s Dad .

I'm not sure it would be covered by insurance - obvs we have contents insurance for our London flat but I guess that wouldn't extend beyond the property (though it's a good question - what if one of our laptops suffered an accident when we happened to be away from home?).

Our contents insurance covers ds in his university accommodation. MSE alerted me to the fact it's often possible to add this to your home insurance if they're in halls. Worth a look. I think it was an optional extra but recall it was very small - like under £10 or so.
