Longwayround [LWR]
Tomorrow, I begin my last week in teaching. After 25 years I’m hanging up my tweed jacket with elbow patches, throwing my last board duster and glaring at my last child with unmet needs. A week on Monday, I become a Police Control Room Operator. I’ll miss the highs of teaching. I suspect it will be rather pleasant to spend more time with people who actually want to be helped.

Good luck with the career change LWR. Quite a change in direction, but it sounds like it will be fulfilling.

ION, we're starting our new MSc tomorrow, so chaos is likely to ensue.

Make sure you throw that duster hard, LWR! Good luck with the new job.
Face to face teaching starting next week for me. Just a few days to finish going through my teaching stuff and working out how the stats package works, eek!

Sorry to ask...
Mr W has been asked to write a supporting statement for a student applying to Oxford (maths), and hasn't done one before! Is there a good framework or guideline or anything so he doesn't look foolish?

I have never done one or seen one but I would say it's like any reference. Talk about strong points and suitability for course of study. Would also emphasise any extracurricular stuff as everyone applying there will have good grades.

There are enough educators on here that I thought it might be nice to have somewhere supportive to rant and problem solve.

Everyone is welcome.
