Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

A thoughtful note/card is always appreciated. I think my favourite student gift was a pen with my name engraved on it (forethought required and at least useful). Other things I've had have been less useful because of personal taste: scarves, coasters etc.

The pen was a combined one from 3-4 students if I remember correctly. Mostly it's a box of Celebrations or something.

Asking for help. Does anyone work in a school sixth form or an FE college?

LittleD is in year 13. She has always hated the school and she now says she can't cope. Does anyone know what happens if a young person stops going to school in year 13? What are the options? Can they change school so late? Does the LA have a duty to find them a place? I would find her a place somewhere but would schools/colleges have to take her? What about doing one or two A levels this year and doing the other one next? Can I homeschool her and have her still do the exams at her current school?

She's doing A levels that are not routinely offered everywhere: Media, English Lit/Lang and Sociology. One of the issues is that she was doing Maths but hated the teacher so got permission to do two years of Sociology in one. This is not working out....so am thinking maybe do Media and English this year and something else next.

It is certainly possible to do a levels like that - we have a student at our 6th form who has had to do it like this due to ongoing medical treatment. Not sure who you’d need to talk to - local council education dept ?

Merry Christmas and Happy NewG(rrr)
I've just been assigned a new pupil for my volunteer tutoring - S5, autistic and hasn't attended school all year. Higher (like English A level, nearly) Maths. A level up from what I did for last 3 pupils. Bricking it! :-) G

Happy, you don't need to know the answers, talk them through what they've learnt, and Google is your friend!
