No 6s miser, I remember that being your goal for a 10k not so long ago!

I'm on the sub 75 bus for spring, we just need to leave our jobs, train three times a day and spend 5 or 6 weeks in the rift valley. Who's with me?

Or we could all club together and buy an altitude tent?

Is this turning into a sub 75 HM thread? Can I join.

Nice run in Cardiff DJ. A PB by whatever marginal is still a PB. Sub 80 isn't far off.

FF - fantastic run. What sort of training have you been doing? You've come on massively in the last 6 months.

Miser - that's a great run to go sub 77. That is in touching distance of sub 75. That's a massive milestone in my eyes. I'd love to achieve it at some point.

I've been getting back into the running when family life permits. Seem to be in reasonable shape at the moment. I'm running a HM a week Sunday but doing it as (ahem) a woman! Not literally, my wife entered it ages ago and now can't run. We tried to transfer the place to me but the organisers were as inflexible as ever. I won't publicise which half it is as I'll be sneaking into the sub 80 pen when I should be in the 1.40-2.00 hr pen! And I shouldn't imagine they'll be too pleased if I'm one of the top women finishers. So will probably run it as a hard training run to see what sort of shape I'm in. Would hope to be close to 80 mins.

RtP, I have made too much change over my P&D training for VLM. The distance has increased by about 10% (guesstimate).
I suspect it's the hill work on my LSR that has been the main cause for improvement.

The Continual Half Marathon Improvement thread™ - I like it.

FF - whatever you've changed, we can all try and learn from it. Keep doing it!

I'm putting my improvement down to a little less mileage than marathon campaigns, but slightly greater consistency and probably most importantly a 6-7 mile tempo run every week or so.

Definitely feeling motivated and keen to keep decent weeks ticking over.

Normally after a target race, however it goes, I'm mentally hungry but physically knackered. Everything just feels a bit more sustainable at the moment.

WM - Yup - it seems only the other day sub 6s for a 10k was huge and the sub 80 half was a pipedream. Got to love running's continually shitfing targets

I forgot to add that I've been including a 10km row each week.
I've noticed a distinct firming up around the mid-rift which presumably means an increase in core strength.

WW - you're right about the 10km PB! It was ~40s faster than my post VLM 10k earlier this year.
There is definitely some motivation now to get out and race some shorter distances which I hope will help further.

I think its fair to say everyone on this thread is flying !

Two target races for me in Spring, Brighton Marathon in April, my first, maybe ambitious but for my first Im trying to get under 3:10 for London the following year. On the way to that Bath Half and going for a sub 80. Thats the plan.

Starting a training plan Monday for this, hills reps, base runs ,Fartlek........no real speed work, mmm?

Miser- You saying about how targets change, this time last year, had nt run a race and entered Bath, was looking to get under 1.45 .

I think I am going to be racing Watford and Bath in the Spring, just plotting out easy weeks etc to see if I can fit them in. Not sure what my targets will have shitfed to by then but sub 80 for sure!

Hello sub 80'ers. This was my long term target until March this year, when I finally did it. Things have gone tits up since then, so I need to get myself back into sub 80 shape. Lots of miles through the winter should do it.

dj - I don't do any "speedwork" in the winter. Just lots of easy runs, a couple of steady runs, and the odd XC race for building strength and stamina - and try to stay north of 80 mpw if I can. It worked last winter.
