Same day as Yorkshire Marathon, £38 for affiliated entries, all the essentials in place, rare opportunity ... I could be very tempted.

I still haven’t a place for Eyri but could be tempted by adding to or swapping for Stevenage 🤔

As I mentioned I did 3:58 in Tokyo but I’m suffering from injury but this morning at Riga, foot was okay so I gave it a go. As I mentioned I knew I’d be a lot slower today but I enjoyed it, so although this was in no way a sub 4 attempt, I thought I’d report back. It’s a beautiful city and really nice race, two laps for the marathon (the half goes off at the same time). There are are also 5K, 10k, 1 mile and kids events over the weekend. At the expo I could choose from 4 different Nike shirts - black, white, green and blue. Don’t think I’ve seen that before. Race started at 8am and I was over the line in about 7mins. Before the start I found some loos in a shopping centre right by the start so didn’t have to queue at all and went straight in, whilst the queues for the portaloos were huge - I remembered I did similar in Salzburg last year. Similar to Salzburg it was too hot for me so I started off really steady, but was still expecting a fade. I think I went through half in 2:21 and I was expecting a fade due to the heat, which topped out at 26deg, but I managed a somewhat respectable second half in the circumstances. I was trading places a lot with a fellow 100MCer - Chrissy - who is closing in on 500 marathons. She was hoping for a GFA but I caught up with her at the finish and she just missed it. She knows she can get it in cooler conditions though. The last 5K, myself, a Latvian lady and a Greek chap basically ran in together and I think we helped each other. In the end I finished in 4:57:08, which I’m actually pretty happy with in the circumstances with balancing the foot, the heat and very limited running recently. At the finish there was ice cold soup (which was lovely and really hit the spot), sandwiches, waffles, beer and AF beer. It was really good. As it was so good I’m looking at Vilnius in Lithuania as a possible. It’s the same sponsors, and I’ve never been. Chrissy came over with Running Crazy. Sounds like my mate and I dodged a bullet as she was on the 6am Thursday flight, but that was cancelled, whereas our 9:15am Friday flight, although 45mins delayed, still left. Hers was delayed until Friday night, which must have been very frustrating (obviously no fault of the tour operator)! She was singing the praises very highly of Running Crazy. I saw them out on the course spectating and I’m assuming it’s the boss said ‘say hi to Ewan W’, who I know has used them from my club. I can’t remember which race now but the guy has said that before to me at a race abroad. I’ve never used a tour operators but that’s a nice personal touch that he sees a club vest and knows who from the club has used his service. |

Well done, Big_G It sounds as if the race went as well as it could in the circumstances. And you're opening up the idea of Eastern European marathons for me; the only one I've previously considered was Ljubljana.

Hi folks. Just passing through. Everything running and Fetching gone off the rails these last few weeks. Am completely fine. Just too much work. Still committed though and should be back to decent training very soon. (I have a cunning plan, my Lord!) All the best to everyone and see you back in these parts in a month or so 😀👍 |
