So how is everyones spring marathon training going? I have surprised myself by going out whatever the weather (I am a fair weather runner!) logged a few long runs, done a few 50 mile weeks, and this week is a cutback week before I try for a 22 mile long run on Monday. I must admit that I have felt tired this week after the accumulation of the last 3 weeks, but I will have a rest day on Sunday. Still feeling confident about a sub 4 though |

Good news, Minimag 😀 I'm not being very diligent about my training. No point, I'm not on form, I can't force it, and provided I stay reasonably in shape and uninjured I can get round a marathon without it being a nightmare. 2024 will be difficult. |

I usually try for 22 miles Minimagon a training run, gives me a wee bit of confidence that I’ll make it on the day.

Ally-C thats exactly why I am doing it, banish the failure of my Brighton marathon last year. Velo, I'm sure you have enough in the legs to more than get round, and there are still 2 months to go. |

I mean, 2024 will be different. I'm hoping to be fresh and ready to hit a new age category. This year is for fun.

My training is middling. I’m not following a plan, just trying to incorporate a few things and see how it works out. I undertrained for my last marathon and reaped the results So the goal is to see if the following gives me a significant improvement over the 4:20 is did in the autumn: - Regular 2 hour+ runs. By this I mean most weeks for the three months to the marathon - Get the classic 3 x 20+ milers in. Bonus if one of them is longer - Do something faster every week. Mostly that will be Parkruns, but if not then at least chuck in some sprints or even just fartlek into one run to mix things up - Some progression runs. Really simple, even just use some of those two hour runs to get used to running at a target pace when not fresh I’ve done four runs of two hours this month so that is ok. I’ve done park run every week too. Those are the good bits. I’m not ready for the longer runs yet but my marathon isn’t until May so that’s fine. I just need to start building up to them soon. That ties in with making some of those weekly runs have a progressive element. The weakest bit so far is my total mileage. I should have run in more days in Feb! |

Thanks guys. Just need to keep at it! (And if I do, it might not be enough for sub 4:00, but in itself it will be interesting to see and I'll be happy if I do better than I did in London last Autumn) Good luck to everyone else here and keep sharing how it is going |
